How It Works

All our content is free for teachers!

Over 500 lessons and quizzes developed by teachers in partnership with health professionals to engage digital-age students in grades 4-12 (including sec 1-5 & cégep). Every time a student scores 80% or more on a lesson quiz, we donate a life-saving vaccine to UNICEF Canada. This enables students to directly connect their learning outcomes to a global context.

Learning module topics include:

  • Critical thinking and evaluating information
  • The Spread of Infectious Diseases
  • Cross-curricular research and inquiry
  • Factors affecting global child health equity
  • Canada’s three levels of government
  • Canada’s interactions with the global community
  • The body’s defence system/immune system and how vaccines help
  • Biology: The Diversity of Living Things
  • ...and more!

Accompanying unit/lesson plans are provided.

Want to Try KBI before signing up?

KBI provides a unique and tailored interactive classroom experience that is carefully curated to follow the school curriculum. You can see some sample lessons here.

You can also preview the student experience by signing up as a pretend student on our “teachers’ test team”. To do this click on the “Sign Up” button at the top right and sign up as a student. You can use any name and password you’d like. This will be a temporary account, so don’t worry about remembering your name or password.

For the ‘Team Registration Code’, use TryKBIHere (note this is not case sensitive and trykbihere works as well).

You will be able to experience Kids Boost Immunity as a BC grade 6 student.

Please be aware that student accounts associated with this team are temporary and will be deleted periodically. In addition, vaccines earned for UNICEF on this team will not be included as part of KBI’s global vaccine counter.

What Makes KBI Different

We provide dozens of classroom activities and teacher resources, each of which are paired with an online quiz that students can take on their laptop, tablet, or phone. This two-pronged lesson approach enables teachers to tailor a classroom experience that is supplemented by a fun and interactive experience for the student. Our online quizzes have been developed by health and education professionals, as well as communication experts who have studied the online behaviour of students – as such, they are accurate, informative, but also engaging for the student.

In fact, during our pilot, students were so immersed in the content that they continued to engage with the learning outcomes beyond their classroom. Our tests indicated that over 30% of all traffic came from students at home, who voluntarily chose to take optional quizzes after class.

The secret lies in our most unique aspect: Every time a student scores 80% or higher on a quiz, we donate life-saving vaccines to UNICEF Canada. The amount of vaccines we donate depends on the student’s performance, further incentivizing students to retain and meet curricular competencies.

With this unique reward, students are able to personally relate their classroom learning within a greater global context. By “earning” real vaccines, KBI gives the opportunity to empower students with a global, life-saving accomplishment.

Furthermore, we provide an opportunity for classes to compete against each other across Canada through leaderboards and classroom team structures. Teachers can encourage their class to become the top earning team across all of Canada!

And perhaps best of all: all of the resources, lessons, and quizzes on KBI are available to you entirely free.

As part of a government sponsored public health initiative, associated costs are covered by us and our external sponsors. For more details, read the “Our Partners” section.

The privacy of you and your students is of utmost importance at KBI. While we do require teachers to provide some information in order to prevent fraudulent accounts, we do not require or store any personal/identifiable information about students.
